Here's a simplistic view of how security controls can/should integrate together. I'm calling it The Hedgehog Security Integrations Model, but fully expect the name not to stick. I'm sharing for crowd-sourcing and community thoughts on evolving the thinking and adding to it (eg. control list is representative not exhaustive...but it could be?). Feedback welcome, and feel free to use & abuse or modify! Narrative: - Our security controls are better together. When IoCs and IoAs can be shared ("telemetry") between the main control locations which would be endpoint-based, a form of gateway, or the network. Telemetry that can be exgested and ingested by other controls (native consolidated ecosystems or not). - Security Monitoring, SOAR and SOC capability is the webbing that provides awareness of events, incidents (correlated or not), driving automated responses where possible and capability to drive actions that ultimately reduce Mean-Time-To-Detect and Mean-Time-To-Respond. - Identity at the centre. Whether it is natural persons or digital/machine identities, security driven from an identity-first model. An understanding of how identities traverse, abnormal and normal behaviour across endpoints, gateway and networks.

93% of people in my recent poll vote said that Identity was either maturely in place, or a top priority. I wrote an opinion piece about Identity, I'm fortunate to work for an organisation supportive of this work - but I'm very concerned about the lack of maturity in many pockets of Corporate Australia.
