Working across a collaborative global community of industry, government, and academia, Dr. Liaghati leads MITRE’s Trustworthy & Secure AI Department and MITRE ATLAS, where she passionately drives research and developments in trustworthy and secure AI for everyone working to leverage AI-enabled systems. Leading her department of 55+ scientist and engineers and serving the community with the not-for-profit, objective, MITRE perspective, she is dedicated to working together to create and openly share actionable tools, capabilities, data, and frameworks for trustworthy and secure AI like ATLAS, an ATT&CK-style framework of the threats and vulnerabilities of AI-enabled systems. As Dr. Liaghati has worked across the community to improve the common understanding of AI security concerns, her work quickly started overlapping with broader AI assurance concerns, which includes AI equitability, interpretability, reliability, robustness, safety, and needs for privacy enhancement. As a result of this expansion beyond AI security into more of these elements of trustworthy AI and AI assurance, her current focus under ATLAS and across the international community is to build a protected mechanism for increased knowledge and incident sharing across government and industry in both AI security and the broader areas of AI assurance. Dr. Liaghati also chairs the NATO Science and Technology Organization Research Task Group on the AI Assurance and Security, focused on fostering an enduring collaborative community of NATO organizations and industry partners, leveraging the Science and Technology Organization to shape future interoperable capability developments in AI security and assurance.

Dr. Julie Marble leads the Intelligent Human Machine Systems core competency. She has more than 25 years of experience in Human-Machine Teaming, Human-Robot Interaction, and Human Reliability Analysis and holds a PhD in Human Factors and Cognitive Psychology from Purdue University. After graduate school, she joined the Idaho National Lab, conducting groundbreaking work in Human-Robot Interaction. She helped establish and later became owner and CEO of Sentient Corporation, a company that used high-end data science and signal processing techniques to model and predict failures in bearings and gears for helicopters, windmills, and other rotating and reciprocating components. After selling Sentient, she returned to her focus on work involving humans interacting with machines at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a research program manager. She then served as program officer in Code 341 of the Office of Naval Research, where she established programs in human cyber security and human-machine interaction. She spent six years at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, leading research in human-machine teaming and human-cyber systems. For the last few years, she served as the inaugural executive director for the Institute for Experiential Robotics at Northeastern University. She is now returning to ARLIS after previously serving as a visiting scientist.

Mr. Alvin "Tony" Plater was named the Department of the Navy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in February 2021. He reports directly to the DON CIO on the sufficiency, impacts, and implications of proposed changes to cybersecurity guidance, standards, and strategies. He advises the DON CIO on the Defend Strategic / Enterprise level IT security initiatives, commercial cloud security, and cybersecurity innovation to achieve the organization’s vision. He supports coalition building to speed implementation of innovative solutions to address department requirements. He leads a team responsible for driving initiatives to secure DON data and information, regardless of where it resides. These initiatives involve measuring cyber risk, active monitoring, building a cyber-sentry culture, securing the Defense Industry Base, and supporting acquisition.

Mario is a seasoned product management and operations executive with over 25 years of experience building and refining product offerings in general analytics, applied analytics, cloud and SaaS, and cybersecurity.
Mario spent the early years of his career in the Business Intelligence and Analytics space, leading several teams including platform and OEM strategy for Cognos before, during, and after the IBM acquisition in 2008.
In 2013, Mario joined Series A startup Interset to help lead its pivot into cybersecurity, which pioneered a best-of-breed analytic approach to optimize for insider and advanced threat detection. With important partners such as In-Q-Tel, Interset had a successful outcome, culminating with the acquisition by Micro Focus in 2019.
Mario currently leads Enterprise Cybersecurity Engineering and Product Management at OpenText, which includes application security, identity and access management, data security, forensics, as well as threat detection capabilities.

He joined the USPS SLED sales team in August 2021 and progressively worked his way through the organization until assuming his current leadership position. Simon lives in Hagerstown, Maryland and when he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, restoring classic arcade machines, and is an accomplished chef.
