Most recently, he led the technical delivery team for the U.S. Air Force’s NIPR Illumio deployment.
Erik holds CISSP and Illumio EPIC certifications and is a speaker and demonstrator of Illumio solutions at U.S. Air Force cybersecurity conferences and industry events.

Prior to joining Illumio, he served as Chief Information Officer for the Office of the Inspector General, United States Postal Service for almost 10 years. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force where he served as a Cyberspace Operations Officer for 20 years, holding key leadership positions including on the Air Force and Air National Guard CIO staffs and as a communications squadron commander.

With over 25 years of experience as a practitioner and industry analyst, he is best known for creating the revolutionary Zero Trust Model of Cybersecurity. As Chief Evangelist at Illumio, John Kindervag is responsible for accelerating awareness and adoption of Zero Trust Segmentation.
Most recently, John led cybersecurity strategy as a Senior Vice President at On2IT. He previously served as Field CTO at Palo Alto Networks and, before that, spent over eight years as a Vice President and Principal Analyst on the security and risk team at Forrester Research.
In 2021, John was named to the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) Zero Trust Sub-Committee and was a primary author of the NSATC Zero Trust report that was delivered to the President. That same year, he was also named CISO Magazine’s Cybersecurity Person of the Year. Previously, Kevin held leadership roles at VMware, including Director of Federal Networking and Security Solutions, and at Splunk, where he drove data analytics solutions for National Security Programs. He also spent nine years at Cisco. He led the Federal Data Center Team which was responsible for bringing new products to market across Special Programs and Defense.
Kevin Reed began his career in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Engineer, where he developed a strong foundation in leadership, problem-solving, and mission execution.
