Jerry Mechling, an independent consultant, is a former faculty member of the Harvard Kennedy School, where from 1983 to 2011 he taught degree-program courses on information management and founded Strategic Computing in the Public Sector, a research and executive-education program. He also is a former research vice president at Gartner Inc.

A fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and four-time winner of the Federal 100 Award, he was formerly a fellow of the Institute of Politics; an aide to the mayor of New York City and assistant administrator of the New York City Environmental Protection Administration; and director of Boston's Office of Management and Budget.

He received his B.A. in physical sciences from Harvard College and his M.P.A. and Ph.D. in economics and public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University

   Theresa Pardo serves as Associate Vice President for Research at the University at Albany and as Special Assistant to UAlbany’s President Havidán Rodríguez, directing a university-wide project on differential impacts of COVID-19 in New York. She is also a full research professor in Public Administration and Policy, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy and an affiliate faculty in Information Science at the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity. As a Senior Fellow at the Center for Technology in Government, Pardo works with CTG UAlbany’s multi-sector and multi-disciplinary teams to carry out applied research and problem-solving projects focused on the intersections of policy, management, and technology in the governmental context. Prior to her role as a Senior Research Fellow, Pardo served as Director of CTG UAlbany from 2009 until 2021. During her 12 years as Director she built a reputation for the Center as a global leader in digital government and public sector information technology, innovation, research and practice. Under her leadership, CTG advanced its model of multi-sector, multi-disciplinary teams from the U.S. and around the world to carry out applied research and problem-solving projects focused on digital transformation, service innovation and value creation in the public sector.

Since 2004 to present, Alan has served as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Public Technology Institute (PTI). In addition to his role at PTI, he currently serves as an Associate Professor at George Mason University's Schar School of Policy and Government. Having served as Associate Professor of Practice at Rutgers University School of Public Affairs and Policy for 9 years he maintains an affiliation as Coadjutant lecturer at the Center for Government Services. He is the author of the textbook Technology & Public Management and has over 10 other titles that have been published and available on Amazon. He received a doctorate in public administration from the University of Southern California and MPA degree from Baruch College. He served as a US Navy Seabee Veteran, having served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.

Imagine the controversy some 40 years ago among engineering school faculty who expressed concern that the standard hand-held slide rule might be replaced by sophisticated hand-held calculators. In some schools and colleges, they were banned for use during exams or major university entrance tests. Today, we see similar discussions and debates with the advent of generative AI (GAI) and, in particular, the popular ChatGPT. And given the allure and capabilities of GAI, the issues are much more difficult, and the consequences are potentially far more serious.
